About
Who am I?
My name is Matt Jones, just an average guy. I never thought I would be ‘blogging,’ but here I am. If you want to know more, just contact me.
What is this blog about?
My idea is to combine the topics of Computing (What’s cool, What’s new), Information Technology (Stories from the life of a network administrator), and Instructional Technology (Supporting teachers using technology in the classroom and helping our students)
What are your hobbies?
Well, I really like technology. I enjoy finding that new really cool thing online. I like installing new software, and just giving it a shot. I like new, efficient, slick, streamlined ways of doing previously complex tasks. I like gadgets that are actually useful and cool. Beyond that, I do enjoy taking video and plan to revive my previous interest of photography.
What is it that you do?
I’m the network/system administrator for Winton Woods City Schools. I started as the ‘desktop deployment’ guy and I still carry that responsibility. I still enjoy making the deployment process of a computer faster, more reliable, and getting a computer functional as fast as possible.
Since becoming the network administrator I’ve taken on more responsibilities. I administer all of our servers and the services that run on them, plus whatever else pops up on a day-to-day basis.
What are your interests within information technology?
- Virtualization - I find it lets me be far more productive in my desktop deployment job. On the server side of things, it allows me to implement new things that would have previously never have happened due to budgets or other constraints.
- VoIP - Telephone systems are so expensive and complex. VoIP lets us implement the same services for much less, and allows us to be much more flexible. The prospects of VoIP over Wifi are very interesting to me.
- The Web - It’s hard to decide what to call this category. I’m not talking “Web 2.0,” that term makes me nauseated. I enjoy finding that new killer web application. Things like Gallery, Plone, Moodle, Flickr, or Digg.
